Joan Ramón Escoda Les Paradetes, 2021

$46.00

Joan Ramon Escoda and Maria Carmen Sanahuja form the incredible duo behind Celler Escoda-Sanahuja. A mythic couple in natural Catalan wine, they’ve been farming their grapevines organically since 1997, when they took over Maria’s family estate. In 2003 they converted to biodynamic, and in 2007, they banned the use of sulphur entirely. Located in the Coca de Barbera appellation, today they manage more than 10 ha of land, on which they’ve created a harmonious blend of vineyards, produce gardens, livestock, olive groves and almond trees. It’s a veritable miniature paradise that is also home to the magnificent restaurant Tossal Gros – tested and approved! At once a legend and a trailblaze, Joan Ramon is also the creator of the H20 Vegetal wine fair, where sulphur-free winemakers gather together every summer. There are no words to adequately honour this great bon vivant and lover of celebrations – he’s a man as generous, lively and joyful as his wines!

This is a blend of 40% Grenache, 30% Sumoll Negre and 30% Carignan, "más o menos o algo así...", according to Joan Ramon! The vines are grown biodynamically and planted on the terroir of the Conca de Barbera, are harvested separately but macerate for 15 days and ferment together in stainless steel tanks. Aging in stainless steel vats and amphorae for six months, natural vinification, bottled without fining nor filtration, and always without sulphur at Escoda's. A natural cuvée with great purity. Blackcurrant, raspberry, plum, light earthy notes and mineral finish. A glouglou wine which still manages to have a nice structure.
